About Jim
Geopolitics, Media & the Future of Influence
Biography
Jim Stenman is a journalist and media strategist whose work sits at the intersection of geopolitics, storytelling, and the future of influence.
He is the host of ‘Global Power Shifts’, a podcast exploring how political, economic, and cultural power is being reshaped across continents — from the expanding BRICS bloc and Gulf diplomacy to the rise of creators challenging traditional institutions.
He is also the co-creator and Editor-in-Chief of ‘Layered,’ a new storytelling platform that goes beyond headlines to uncover the people, cultures, and systems shaping the world, starting in Dubai and across the Global South.
Jim spent nearly a decade at CNN International, producing for both CNN.com and the flagship program ‘Connect the World with Becky Anderson.’ In that role, he covered breaking news, in-depth interviews, and special series from the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and beyond. His interviews have included Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, among other global leaders, CEOs, and cultural icons. Since leaving CNN, his bylines and reporting have appeared in Reuters, BBC’s Focus on Africa, and Politico Europe, with coverage spanning diplomacy, economic reform, infrastructure, and the shifting narratives driving global politics.
Beyond reporting, Jim is a sought-after moderator and event host, known for his ability to draw candid, thought-provoking insights from global leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers. He has led high-level conversations at COP28, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, and the Africa CEO Forum, as well as at private forums hosted by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, the African Union, and The Arts Club Dubai. His moderation work spans themes from climate diplomacy and economic development to media freedom and cultural identity.
Rooted in a Swedish–Ethiopian background and shaped by more than a decade living and working in London, Jim brings a cross-cultural lens to every project. Drawing on his newsroom experience and global perspective, he now collaborates on initiatives that merge journalistic depth with thoughtful, long-term storytelling — often in spaces where public narratives, policy, and personal voice intersect.
Whether behind a microphone, on stage, or in the field, Jim’s work is guided by a belief that stories — told with context, craft, and credibility — can shift perspectives and shape the future.
World1Media is a news and content studio founded by Jim Stenman (host of ‘Global Power Shifts’; former CNN/Reuters). It focuses on stories that matter internationally, especially across the Gulf and Africa, through podcasts, features, films, and executive content. This includes ‘Global Power Shifts’ and ‘Layered,’ a digital magazine exploring people, places, arts, and culture from unexpected angles.
On the news agency side, World1Media has worked with CNN, Al Jazeera English, and Reuters — supporting reporting, field production, research, and quick-turn explainers. On the studio side, projects include a World-Bank funded investment film highlighting transport-corridor opportunities and Gulf–Africa partnerships; a corporate film for Madagascar’s largest energy and real-estate group; and a podcast on technology and cross-border collaboration whose guests later appeared in the Financial Times and on the TIME100.
Beyond production, we help leaders and conveners sharpen their message — briefings, talking points, and clear editorial around key moments (from World Expo to UNGA, COP, and WEF). The result is content that travels from boardrooms and investor meetings to stages and earned media, without drifting into hype or spin.
